Actually, the people get the link to the RA academy in their introduction mail and as some other things there, it's also a test on how well they read through, what we give 'em Wink

Here's a thought, though it's an old post, and may in fact be made irrelevant by the adoption of the Sage Edition skills system. This would probably require some modification of the character sheet system, but otherwise should be relatively simple.

Suppose a player decides to learn from another player (or logical NPC system, say an X-wing simulator, to learn piloting). Okay, so they go to a thread, where they roleplay the process. The players involved interact, and are given experience based on the RP in those threads. The real benefit of this, though, is that, not only are they gaining a small, paltry amount of XP, but after a pre-determined amount of experience gained from this sort of training, the skill they are training in is modified one of two ways.

First, if the skill is a class skill, the character recieves a misc. +1 bonus (non-cumulative, since training can only take you so far before you have to DO it to get better) to that skill.

If, however, the skill is NOT a class skill, they instead LEARN the skill as a class skill (reducing the cost of getting better in the future by 1 point per rank). At this point, they can stil recieve a +1 bonus for training, though it's still non-cumulative with other training bonuses.

The player (if it is two players training together) doing the training would get some experience from roleplay, and, after a pre-determined amount of exp gained this way, would gain a non-cumulative +1 misc. bonus to the train skill.

The cross-class option sounds a little overpowered, but it's what I could come up with on a short notice Razz

Perhaps the experience necessary to train a cross-class skill into a class skill is tripled. to reflect the lack of experience in the field, or maybe only doubled? I'm not sure.

Thoughts?

Well, that is a good point. In games like KoTOR and KoTOR 2, it used the D20 system but if you did something you gained extra points in a skill, what if we added something like that? would that be possible?

Probably won't make a difference in Saga. As I understand it, Saga eliminates a lot of the misc +1 modifiers, instead going with more 're-roll' talents. That's good for coding, probably bad for moderators who need to keep track of such talent rules.

Saga eliminates miscellaneous bonuses to skills via feat or synergy.

However, its possible to gain a bonus via other circumstances. Like a fighter pilot who trains in the belt of Anoat would get a circumstance bonus for navigating it during combat and so on.

However, I encourage PC training their NPCs and thus improving their NPC overall, which I think is better for the game rather than PC trying to train and get an extra +1 in something when they could just go in combat and other scenarios and get a boost in XP instead.

I think that should be going on as well, PC's training their NPC, and POSTING. Maybe the higher up PC's could appoint a NPC to train the PC's too, since we are a bit short on personnel at the moment. That way that could gain experience in something also, besides POSTING, and not just collect XP like you mentioned.
