I just gained a level and added skill points to stealth. Why is Wisdom the base ability for stealth? In the d20 both Hide and Move Silently (which are covered by our generic "Stealth") are Dex-related. It sucks because I have a +2 Dex mod. and a -1 Wis mod.

the d20 is clear: Move Silently is Dex-based and so is Hide. I think the reasoning behind using Wisdom in our system may have been to jive with the Wis-based perception skills (Investigate? anyway, in d20 that would be Listen and Spot) but your wisdom wouldn't allow you to hide better, your dexterity would. |

I'd have say that Vin/Talin is correct about this. I've searched through the warehouse for where this was listen, and everybody accepted this as normal.
Now I checked various systems and it all turns back to Hide and Move Silently and both are checks for dexterity. Since the combination of these two skills is essentially what makes up stealth, I'd suggest changing it if that's at all possible. |

Hide/Move Silently are both a Dex based skill. Can be used untrained. The end. |

Hm, I think the reasoning behind this could've been, that you could learn how to better hide/move silent over the time. Then it'd apply to your WIS attribute.
*shrugs*
But I have no problems with setting it to the WOTC standard, either. |

I've got a quasi-related question I keep forgetting to ask.
In the past (i.e. I don't know if it has carried over to SWCIC or not), the "astrogate" skill was a cross-class skill for the Soldier class. That's different from the straight d20 system, where it's a class skill. Was it made different intentionally, or was it an oversight?
(If this no longer applies to SWCIC, then ignore this. )

well the warehouse lists don't even mention the astrogation skill at all, so I'm thinking here that it was added later and that might have caused some problems.
Is it still possible to change that or will that cause a problem? |

It should be possible to change it right now.
The only problem will be, that you can't really tell, if people would've invested more points in that skill, than they have now, or not
Regardless what some might claim now, it's difficult to come up with a decision now, that'd involve changing it and not having to alter a hundred player accounts, or so |

Yeah, trying to backtrack and fix a bunch of characters would be kinda daunting. I don't have a problem keeping it the same as it is now (cross-class), especially now that I know what to expect and can plan accordingly. I was just confuzzled, that's all.

However, we could make it a class skill from now on |

To be fair, there isn't so many classes. So what we could do to distinguish them, we should. How many class skills do soldiers have? Do they need Astrogate, or should we keep them to the other pilot classes? |

That wouldn't be good on my part (because Dayton was a former Naval Officer before he joined the Army, he was flying starfighters and everything and had to deal with astronavigation), sot hat would screw my character over. Personally, I say leave it. |
