Really? Maybe for the Rebels and their snubfighters.
The Empire didn't even include hyperdrives, except for the elite or prototype ships

Actually, all Imperial pilots need to know astronavigation since they also fly shuttles and transports which have hyperdrive installed.

3 pages long for a discussion of Astronavagation? I'm sure we can agree it was probably covered in the Imperial Academy at some point? And the naval personal would need to know it if the computer went down in a shuttle.

To get back to the initial discussion, while pilots obviously need astrogate skills... does the Soldier need it as a class skill?

Well, we're just being thorough with it and 3 pages probably wouldn't even cover the basics of it
I think I tried to make that point earlier as well, that they'd need to know about it, in case the equipment broke down. So, quick and painless: does the majority think it should be a class skill from now on ?
EDIT: ah, Evaders posted while I was writing mine offline. Well, they are both combined in that class and therefore it would either be a penalty to those characters with a military occupation, that are pilots, or on the other hand an unexpected bonus for groundpounders.
So, if we don't separate them with different classes, which would just be even more work and also more abstract, we'll just have to find a compromise.
My idea behind the soldier class is, though: as a soldier, the military training they receive in it would make it easier for them to learn the ropes of astronavigation
