Folks, if nothing prevents me from it (ie: lightning storm or some unexpected trip), I'll run a Freeworlds server this weekend from Saturday through Sunday.
Freeworlds is a StarWars mod for Freelancer, so if you have that game, all you'd need to download is, the base 16.60B mod.
After installing the modmanager, you need to install the mod patches, by first renaming the extension (.zip) of the 16.60B patch to .flmod and then double-clicking it. I'll probably release a mini patch prior to the start of the server to restrict the available ships to our timeline, but we'll see about that.
So, once both patches are in the mod manager's database, you need to activate them in the same order (16.60b, SWCIC).
To play it online, start Freelancer normally and hit multiplayer -> internet. In the serverlist you can set a filter to only display compatible versions. Right now, the 24/7 US would be a good place to train a little, if you want to.
Prior to the start of the server, I'll also post a brief set of rules for gaming, although that shouldn't be too extensive, since this is going to be a fun-server
Once we'll get the mailing lists up later today, I'll also send this to everyone else, who might not have realized, that we're back yet. But if you see someone on IM and think they could be interested in this, point them to this thread.
Try the filefront mirror first, though. They're specialized in filehosting and it keeps our server costs down
Server password is: blowupsomething
Now, for the rules:
First of all, behave The server has the same rules of conduct, as the rest of the game, so make sure you follow them. This also includes not trying anything along the way of cheats or other exploits. The server operator software knows them anyway and would only kick you for it, so don't waste your time on it ^^
Once you connect to the server, you need to make a character (up to 5 are allowed). Use the following format for the name and don't use anything else than normal letters (A-Z), underscore (_) and a dot (.) in it.
You start out in the escape pod and have to first buy a reputation in the bar. I suggest either civilian or smuggler (of course you can also try the others, if you want to), since despite the quick editting I made, the mod is set for the NR period. So, imperial players would find themselves currently be attacked by NR fighters in Coruscant, for example
After that you'll need to buy a fighter and go to the hangar bay. You can always switch around locations with the buttons on the upper half of the screen. Once outside, they'll be resonsible for engaging hyperdrive (cruise mode), docking, flying in formation, ...
Next ? Well, fly around in the galaxy, meet others, check all the bases and what you can buy there, check other bars and what they offer (repution, npc missions), dogfight with other members, trade and make more money to buy other things, ... it's really up to you. The starting money should be enough to buy you a decent fighter at a base with the right reputation.
Only pick those fighters, that make sense for your MG, though. RA people shouldn't fly around in a Tie Avenger, for example
Reputation is about the most important thing in this game, next to credits of course. If you pick a reputation other than Civilian, there will always be other NPC factions, that will be hostile to you and will most likely attack you, once they run across you. You can always get a better rep with a faction, by flying missions for them, that are available at the bar, or by checking which one the bartender has to offer.
Of course, the better you get with some npcs, the worse it will be with those hostile to them. Shooting down hostile npcs to the ones you're in bad standing with is a way to fix this though, at the expense of your standing with those that you shoot of course
Fighting: if you're in a fight with more than one opponent and get shot down, then wait until one side is destroyed or gives up, before you get closer than 8k to that area again. This is to prevent respawn-kills.
After the fight is over, the winning side can say so, by typing "Clear" in the system chat (y key gets you to the chat window, system is on the upper left, clicking on someone let's you chat with that person instead).
Logging out in the middle of a fight, or being forced to do so means losing that fight. Only log out (F1), while you're docked at some base. If you can't make it back in time, ask someone to shoot you down, to respawn where you last docked, or fly into a planet, sun, ...
Dock-killing: simply don't do it, it's lame. Dock killing means shooting someone down, that is undocking from a base or station and trapped inside the game script. Wait for someone to either move away more than 3k from the base, for them to be in space longer than 10 seconds, or for them to attack you first !
Only shooting a Borstel (temporary hyperdrive disruptor) missile at someone does not equal as attacking them, if you don't follow up with other weapons.
If you want to make a screenshot of something, you can use the built-in method of Freelancer and use the print-screen key. Other tools like Hypersnap work as well of course.
Lastly, if the server goes down or if you have problems in the game, either post here, or ask other players, that are online.
Have fun

Nope, this one was one where I knew I could make the time, but that doesn't say I won't do it again, or that maybe, just maybe (depends on whether this used pc I got will work as a server) it will become something more permanent in the future
I'm finished with writing the mod, at least I hope so. I'll upload it now and post here.
You'll need to activate this as well, after the 16.65 mod and the 16.60B patch.
I've adjusted the starting money and equipment availability, so we won't have to have chars to give out a lot of money or deliver weapons/equipment.
I'll keep y'all updated

Since I've been asked about it and forgot to say so on the first post: I've adjusted the available equipment, so that
-you'll only be able to buy what we have right now in our own timeline (plus the next few fighters to be R&D'ed, since it would be a lot less, then)
-the equipment will be, where you'd expect it for our timeline. That means imperial stuff in: Coruscant, Bilbringi, Kuat, Bastion. Rebel, civilian and Syndicate stuff are located in the more outlying systems, like Tatooine, MonCal, Japreal, Y'Toub, Kessel, Bespin, Hoth, ...
The ships included are:
Republic Transport
Action 4
YV666
Gallofree
Container transport
Smuggler transport (like Karrde's Etherway)
YT1300
YT1300 MK 2
Millenium Falcon
YT2000
YT2400
Yt2400 MK2
Maru troop transport (you saw that briefly on the train mission in JK3)
Lamda shuttle civilian
R45 (Kyle's Raven's claw)
Escort shuttle
Muurian transport
Imp Sentinel land craft
SFS escort (sorry, gotta check what that looks like ^^)

Tyewing
Tie ugly
Vornskyr
Tie bomber civ
