First of all: no, the art team is not sleeping, I'm just doing too many things at once
While I was painting the image for one of our remaining few races, the Trianii, I had the idea of posting a making of, so that those that might be interested can have a look at the whole process.
It all started with the pencil sketch I made. Since I didn't want to simply copy WOTC's nice Trianii concept from the UAA, I found myself looking around for some good panther images, but couldn't find one, that struck close to what I was looking for.
Going through other sources I went through some of the old WEG books and found their Trianii concept, which looked more like a tiger and well, apparently tigers are a lot more popular in the search engines
So having some reference pictures printed out and lying right next to an empty sheet of paper, I came up with the following, then scanned it and removed the background.
What I already liked in that version, is the predatory stare this guy has. You feel like a raw steak, just locking eyes with him
The next step was adding some colors, to get the general layout of what the armor and the fur will look like.
Getting closer, but overall just too plain, so I added some highlights and shadows to it, to give it a bit more depth.
Now that's more like it
It already is somewhat three-dimensional and the armor looks more like reflective metal as well, now.
However, that's where my magic ends. After knowing his capabilities for years and seeing what he could do with the Duros sketch (a co-production between me and CC), I asked my friend Lord LaForge, who's working with me and some other friends on the Rebellion Reloaded TC, to lend me a hand. Well, I don't think anyone will be surprised when I say, that he studied graphic design
After some plastic surgery, that made the head much more like that of a real tiger, even more and this time more anatomically correct depth, new fur coloring and a whole new matte look for the armor, you can now see the final stage, which is what every new player here will see, if they choose to play a Trianii character Thanks again for your great work, Lord LaForge !
