Ok, so Ive been away for the better part of four months. Alot of, well, life, going on.

I'd like to get back into things, and get things rolling.

To start with, I had an idea that occured mostly spontaneously, while reading up on back posts.

We have gone back and forth over timeline, location, etc. We've all come to the same conclusion (though I don't remember what was decided about timeline). The Corellia system. I'd still like to see a timeline that would give us technology of say, The Empire Strikes Back (ep. 5). But maybe that's just me.

What I'd like to propose is a small number of things.
1. First, which I think we already have, nail down a timeline. I for one would nominate immediately after the battle of Yavin. Remove the superweapons from play, the Rebels have to move their now not so secret base, and the Empire has to find them. Essentially, square one.
2. We decide solidly on scope. Not just the time and place, but the why, which would be easy. The RA is looking for a base, and the GE is looking for the RA headquarters. This gives us the scope that we're dealing with... no 200 ISD sized fleets, since we're likely to be one smaller fleet, scouting out the systems, and doing our thing.
3. We get some freeform RP, unmoderated, going on. Hopefully some peoples with board privs to help facilitate.
4. We elect leadership of our respective MG's, and get people working towards getting the MG's stable and functional, and hopefully improving.

The list from there moves into the technicality aspects. Rules development, implementation, etc, etc. Given some time, we can get to a better point in activity and goings ons.

What does everyone think? If we like this progression, then how do we want to go about starting?

That's actually a good idea Kalor. An excellent idea. I can easily support it. I'm even beginning to have ideas that can expand on it.

So, where should we start?

Like I said I don't remember the timeline we were looking at, but if we can nail that down, we can move directly to unmoderated RP. That in and of itself, may help us get new players and retain older players.

That would be my suggestion, at least.

...where? O.o"

Also:

How bout a semi-planned timeline, with things happening around the galaxy, on which player will or would not participate. Smaller and bigger battles, planets changing sides and so on.
The PC would be attached to an army/task force in the Correlian sector, but there would be things all around, as most of this would have some influance in the PC sector.

For example, a GE spy finds out about a rebel convoy leaving from Tatooine to Nal Hutta. The GE leader [if he has enough time] can now either pass the info to his superiors, and not involve his forces, or he can send out some of his PC.

With this we can have players naturally jumping into scenarios, a way to bring in new players [a rebel captain on of the convoy ships, for example] and can create scenarios, in which one faction is not depandant on the seconds participants.

Edit: nvm the 'where' missread first post

Sounds good. I can help with that. What about (in addition) a peacekeeper force that is tasked w/ putting down pro-rebel factions. It would open up more than just firefights...

Ok, so given that I'm not a mod, admin, or anything other than member, I may or may not be overstepping my bounds here, but this is my outlook on factions, currently.

There are a few key points, if we want longevity in the game. I'll explain them all as I see them before really giving any solution, as I see it.

First, we need to consider playerbase, and how many factions they will be split amongst. If we have 20 members, split among 3 factions, that's not bad... 7 members or so per faction. If we change that to 4 factions, that number drops to 5. With 5 factions, to 4, and so on. This isn't bad, but it's not ideal.

Second, somewhere down the road, I think that moderated scenarios are going to be more common. If we want to succeed as a game and a community, we need to think short and long term. The more factions that we have, the more complicated moderation can become, as well as the background administration, such as any form of R&D, economics, and other features that some players, at least, would like to see.

Third, more factions does have advantages, being more options for new and experienced players, which means more joining, and higher retention. Options are good, after all.

Now, my viewpoint on it is very similar. While there have been attempts, at least on the Imperial side (since I can't speak for the Alliance), to create scenarios that were not just firefights or combat, they were rare, and felt, to me, like less effort had gone into making a truly solid scenario and environment.

That being said, I know that a lot of work went into those scenarios, but I think they were treated less vitally than combat missions, because there were no life and death consequences for characters. We can work around that. That comes into scenario design.

As for large numbers of players in factions, it is also something that could work out to our advantage, initially. A small, dedicated core group of players in a faction, in the long run, will stick together better than a monstrous organization where very few players know other players.

So, my thought is this. And, to reiterate, I have no actual rule making, decision making, or other authority of any kind, this is just my input, and my thoughts. If I were you, and wanted to put a faction together to any end, such as a peace-keeping force, or mercenary group, or...etc, here is what I would do.

I would sit down and research the group. Find similar canon examples, and apply them as a sort of template to what you want. Show the mods and admins that this group can work, firstly, in the universe that we are creating, and in as much detail (without being boring... no need to count the rivets in an SSD or Mon Cal Cruiser, for example...), and really paint this group as something that can benefit the community and game.

Then, put this into a thread, with your ideas as to how it would work, run, etc, political standing, and anything else that you felt was important to the group, and ask for member input. If there is interest (from a few members, mind you, it's not a small thing) from the community in this group, I think I can garuntee that the admins would at least discuss and consider the idea. That's not to say that they would add it, and even if they do, it might take time. But you would provide all the relevant information for them, as well as show community and membership support for the group, and that would count for a lot.

If this is something that you want to do, let me know, and I would be happy to help out however I can. I'm excellent at research, and very detail oriented, and have plenty of time on my hands to help out.

And now I'm done ranting.

To sum it up, I'd like to see a non-major political power involved in the games, maybe even a few. But it is a lot of work, and someone has to start it.

If you want a non-major power involved, what about some of the warlords after endor? Like Harrsk and his Zero Command. It lasted a good 10 years, and hardly anything has been written abbout it.

Again, we'd need to see how it would benefit the community, and how to fit it into the game.

As a note, I've decided in my spare time that I am going to assemble a website. No forums or anything, yet, since I don't have a host (It will be built on my local machine, then uploaded to a host later) This is mostly for fun, but could become functional if we can't communicate with admins, specifically Evaders, though I don't necessarily WANT to go that route. I just want to play :)

So if anyone has graphics of any faction, of any sort, that they think would be cool to include, email them to me... (jeff.kyser82 at gmail.com) and I will do my best to find a place and include them. Keep in mind that I'm not a graphic designer, at all, so I will be just doing my best :) Please include any info you want credits for, I'll try to include them somehow, and also if they are someone else's images, please get permission to use them :)

Maybe, if all goes well, it could be a facelift, or possibly could be used to create faction websites. Who knows. It could just end up being a way for me to spend some free time :P
